1. How do I optimize my website for search engines?

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, can be an ongoing challenge for small businesses because it’s so essential to helping your website get found by customers. How highly your website ranks in searches depends on several factors, including backend website structure, functionality, and user-friendliness, and outside factors like social media marketing and branding. A solid SEO plan will include cover on- and off-page SEO, local SEO, keyword research and content marketing, and indexing for crawler bots. Wix has made this easy; just follow their SEO Guide right on the platform and the new integration with SemRush.

2. How do I know if my Wix website is secure?

Consumers want to know that the websites they visit are secure and that their private financial information is protected if they do business through the site. Some things to look for when choosing a website platform include strong encryption, a method to accept payments securely, a third-party risk management plan, and a plan to deal with any potential threats or security breaches.

If your website is built by CIS Agency, you already have built-in protection. We create websites using Wix’s platform, which means you have access to their entire security team to monitor and protect your website. Learn more in How Secure is My Website on Wix? (3-minute read).

3. How do I choose keywords to target on my Wix website?

When we start a new website project, we ask for a list of at least five target keywords. Keywords and phrases help search engines match your website to search terms. Here are four steps to get started choosing keywords:

  1. List some words and phrases that describe your services. Examples: car repair, truck repair, oil changes.

  2. Research related keywords and phrases. Tip: For ideas, Google a keyword from your list and look for "Related Searches" and "People Also Ask." Or, check out your competitors' websites.

  3. Expand your list with more specific keywords based on your research. Examples: car repair in Grand Rapids, diesel truck repair, no appointment oil change.

  4. Choose the best words and phrases to target. Tip: Stick with a few keywords/phrases per page and vary the wording.

Tools like Ubersuggest, Google Keyword Planner, or Moz Keyword Explorer can help you make informed decisions about the best keywords for your website. CIS Agency and Semrush can also help with keyword research and content writing!

4. How do I know if my website is performing well?

If you have a Wix website, your dashboard is one way to view key metrics like traffic, sales, and customer behavior. At CIS Agency, we can also set you up with advanced tools to provide even more data and make the best decisions about when and how to adjust your website strategies. The newest tool for measuring website statistics is Google Analytics 4 (GA4 for short), and we look forward to helping our customers get the most out of GA4. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!

5. How can I get the most value out of Google My Business?

A Google My Business profile is a powerful tool for making details about your business (such as location, hours, reviews, etc.) easy to find for potential customers on Google. Best of all, it’s free to register and easy to manage! Here’s how to get the most value out of a profile for your business:

  1. Claim your free profile! Not taking advantage of this Google service could mean missing out on possible customers.

  2. Make sure your information is correct. You have access to personalize and update your profile on Google My Business, so make sure that customers are getting the right information, especially if your details have changed recently.

  3. Manage and respond to customer reviews. A Business Profile gives you a way to respond to public reviews. It’s especially crucial to professionally respond to 1-star reviews and address customer concerns or bad experiences. You should also report 1-star reviews you know are false so they don’t damage your reputation.
